2022, European Journal of Integrative MedicineCitation Excerpt :In eastern medicine, ear acupoints targeted in obesity, such as Spleen, Kidney, Endocrine and Small intestine also located on the region are innervated by the auricular vagus nerve [34]. Stimulation on the vagal innervated region of the auricle could modulate feeding-related hypothalamic neuronal activity leading to the decrease of appetite [36]. In the trials of TA vs. no treatment, selected acupoints were pressed every day before meals [20,22,28,29,31], and most treatments continued at least six weeks [20,22,29,31].

2015, European Journal of Integrative MedicineCitation Excerpt :Efferent and afferent signaling occurs upon needling delta points, including those in the ear – in the most superior and inferior sulci on the helix and in the zero point (Fig. 2), which is an area related to the autonomic nervous system. Needle insertion at delta points increases sympathomimetic activation and glucose metabolism [17,19,25,32,33,38–40]. Utilizing delta points may have contributed to the efficacy of our treatment.

2020, Journal of Pediatric NursingCitation Excerpt :This present study result was inconsistent with a previous study (Nourshahi, Ahmadizad, Nikbakht, Heidarnia, & Ernst, 2009) in which auricular acupressure and auricular acupuncture reduc27.9 ∼ 29.9 kg/m2, which was much higher than the mean BMI of the experimental and control groups in this study, with 26.42 ± 2.67 kg/m2 and 26.42 ± 2.67 kg/m2, respectively. In the auricular acupuncture designed for obesity reduction in this study, the effects of auricular acupuncture were shown to be greater, along with more significant obesity (Shiraishi, Onoe, Kojima, Sameshima, & Kageyama, 1995). Therefore, participants in previous studies whose mean BMI was much greater showed body-fat mass reduction.
