In pancreatic cancer, there is strong evidence that affective symptoms of depression may manifest prior to diagnosis (Green and Austin, 1993; Joffe et al., 1986; Sebti et al., 2014). One study reported that clinically relevant depression occurs in 50% of patients in the year prior to diagnosis (Joffe et al., 1986).
